Banana Cables

Figure 1: Banana cables

The banana cables are used to make various connection to the test equipment including the DC power supply, the digital multimeter, the decade box and all of the components on the student printed circuit board. They are available in both red and black and in different lengths. They are also stacking, which means that multiple banana plugs can be connected to a single banana jack.

Note:

It is important than when you are disconnecting a cable to pull from the base of the plug and not the wire. This increases their lifespan significantly.

The BNC to banana plug cable is used to connect either the oscilloscope or the function generator to the rest of equipment used in the laboratory. The BNC end has both conductors in a single housing, it is also a locking connector which means that when making a connection that you need to press it on with the slots aligned and then turn it to make it lock.

Note:

The red banana plug connects to the center pin of the BNC connector while the black banana plug connects to the outside of the BNC connector. The black lead will sometimes get connected to ground by the piece of equipment that it is connecting to.
