Michael Yip

Michael Yip earned a BSc degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He has worked at several research institutions in the past across Canada and the United States, and has specialized in medical robotics, teleoperation and telesurgery. For his senior thesis, he designed a high-D.O.F. laparoscopic manipulator for haptic-enabled image-guided telesurgery. Michael is currently working towards a M.A.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia. His Masters thesis involves applying computer vision techniques for 3D reconstruction of in-vivo tissue topology and soft-tissue deformation tracking for image-guided surgery.
