Biography and Background

Dr. Khajehoddin is currently a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. specialized in Electronics and control systems in the field of Electrical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in power electronics from Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, Canada. After completing his Master’s, he co-founded Behineh Niru Spadan a start-up company where he developed and produced digital meters and advanced power system analyzers for five years. For his doctoral research at Queen’s University, he worked on the design and implementation of compact and durable micro-inverters for photovoltaic (PV) grid connected systems. Working toward mass-production and commercialization of the micro-inverters, from 2010-2013, he worked as the lead R&D engineer at SPARQ Systems Inc.

He has been involved in several R&D and industrial projects from the development of the basic theories to the production phase in the field of power electronics and smart grid systems. His research interests and backgrounds are focused in the following areas: power electronics, control systems, digital system design and implementation, instrumentation, power quality, smart metering and smart grid.
