Using Egroups Effectively

Egroups is most effective when all group members have Yahoo accounts and know the basic features of Egroups. It was noted that using folders to store all related files for each milestone was a very effective way of organizing files. As a group there is 20MB of space for files and unlimited space for messages (meaning you can post or e-mail as many messages as you would like). Here are the main tips that our group found useful:

  1. Setup reminders for all the deadlines on the calendar and give plenty of notice (i.e. 1 week in advance)
  2. Setup folders for all the reports and proposals in the files-this is an easy way of organizing all the files for one report such as pictures, graphs, scf's and source code for one report
  3. There is no limit to how many people can be logged into one group so all members may log in simultaneously and receive the latest versions.
  4. Setup version folders - since disk space is relatively large, its easy for members to store the VHDL source code they are working on at different dates and versions
