Miscellaneous Facts

I am not closely related to the singer/songwriter by the same name.

I completed my Ph.D. in 1990 under the supervision of Prof. Janusz A. Brzozowski,
who completed his Ph.D. at Princeton University in 1962 under the supervision of
Prof. Edward J. McCluskey Jr., who completed his Sc.D. at M.I.T. in 1956 under the
supervision of Prof. Samuel H. Caldwell, who completed his Sc.D. at M.I.T. in 1933
under the supervision of of Prof. Vannevar Bush, who completed his Ph.D. at M.I.T.
and Harvard University in 1916 under the supervision of Arthur Edwin Kennelly.
Professor Kennelly, an immigrant from England, worked from 1887 to 1894 as
an assistant to Thomas Alva Edison in the recently opened West Orange laboratory.
Edison's formal schooling was apparently limited to three months when he was seven.

Statistically, after 40-odd generations, virtually all people of European background
must be descendants of Charlemagne, King of the Franks and Emperor of the West.
Here is my own descent from Charlemagne, through Hugh Capet, King of France,
and Robert I the Bruce, King of Scotland.
