Welcome to the Vacuum Technology Page

A cheap pocket sized Mass Spectrometer? A portable ten dollar ground penetrating radar? They sound like something out of an old science fiction novel. We may not be living in domed cities and zipping around in atomic powered cars but vacuum systems are critical to development of the first two items. Check the 'Mass Spec' sidebar for more along with an update on the Mass Spectrometer project.

This page is here as an aid to students of the E E 641 High Vacuum Technology course here at The University of Alberta Electrical and Computer Engineering Department who have also kindly provided the web resources for this page.

I retired from the University at the end of July, 2001 but will maintain this page from time to time or until someone else in ECEE is willing to take it over. At the moment facilities have been moved to a new building and Assistant Professor Jeremy Sit is teaching the vacuum course.
