Advanced Control Systems Laboratory

The Advanced Control Systems Laboratory was established in 1997 in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. The primary purpose of the laboratory is to facilitate fundamental and applied research, under the direction of Dr. T. Chen, Dr. H. Marquez and Dr. Q. Zhao, in the general areas of systems and control. On-going research activities in the lab concentrate in nonlinear control systems, robust control, sampled-data control (linear and nonlinear), multirate systems, real-time computer control systems, fault detections and fault tolerant control.

The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art computing facilities, thanks to research grants from the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) the University of Alberta and Syncrude Canada Ltd. Graduate students and researchers associated with the laboratory also have access to a large computer network available in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Close interactions exist across campus with the Advanced Robotics & Teleoperation Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Computer Process Control Group in the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering.
