Financial Assistance
Several forms of financial assistance are available for well qualified graduate students, awarded on a competitive basis. Virtually all of the students accepted to work in my group receive full financial support through a combination of several sources. No special application form is required. All Applicants are considered for all sources of financial support. A typical award consists of a combination of (i) a research assistantship, (ii) a teaching assistantship. Research assistantships constitute the main source of support and are awarded directly by me. Teaching assistantships require a certain amount of service work in the form of marking assignments or similar. Exceptionally well qualified students can also be considered for one of several scholarships offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. These awards include:- University of Alberta Master's Scholarship (available to both Canadian students and foreign applicants).
- University of Alberta Ph.D. Scholarship (Canadian students).
- FS Chia PhD Scholarship (foreign applicants).
Every year the Department receives many applications for well qualified students. Only outstanding candidates with a true desire to learn and work hard are encouraged to apply.
