How to Buy Altera UP1 Boards

By Wendy Benbow
Spring 2001
So, somehow you've gotten suckered into organizing the purchase of this terms UP1 boards. This report should help you figure out what you're doing, and explain everything you need to know in order to get the right boards and all of the additional parts.

In the past, the sale has been done by someone involved with the EE Club, it doesn't have to be, but it is handy to used the club's good credit rating (?) or at least their mailing address. Just beware of their attempts to turn you efforts in to a profit for them...

STEP 1:  Confirm Prices

In the spring of 2001 the boards were $100US, but this was the last time we can get that price.
They are changing the boards to have an EPF10K70 instead of an EPF10K20 which increases
         the cost of the board.

STEP 2:

Sell the boards to the class!

Buying the boards is NOT mandatory but there are several advantages to the group having their own board, including the ability to work at home, to permanently attach hardware, and to keep the project after the end of the course.

Make an announcement in class and give them a deadline for giving you (or the eeclub?) money. This step should take about a week.  Be sure to get the name, email and phone number of your customers just in case they don't come to class very often

STEP 3:

Place your order... You will need a credit card! If you don't have one, then steal a friends... you can pay by cheque, but the shipping time will be MUCH longer. Online shopping seems to be safe these days, but it is still not a good idea to email your credit card number, so talk to Ralene at Altera as to how to pay her (I faxed her my credit card number).

   * Be sure to ask how long it will take and if any of the parts are on backorder.

STEP 4:

WAIT

STEP 5:

Distribute the boards. (I just made everyone come to the club to pick them up.)

STEP 6:

Update this file for the next sucker, uh I mean salesman.
