Lab 1: Sources of Documentation

In this lab, you will review some of the many sources of documentation that you will later be using for labs and projects.  All the necessary information can be found under http://www.ee.ualberta.ca/~elliott/ee552/ or at the URLs noted.
Answer the following questions in point form. Labs are to be done by individual students. A formal lab report is not required.
  1. What percentage of the total class mark is the final report worth?
  2. Using the Xilinx Virtex-II 1.5V FPGA data sheets, answer the following questions. (Hint: see http://www.xilinx.com).  To conserve your own disk space, please delete the data sheets once you are finished the questions in this section.
    1. what is the maximum number of look-up tables (LUTs) in the Virtex-II family?
    2. briefly describe the features of the Configurable Logic Blocks (CLBs)
    3. what is the maximum number of I/O pads in the XC2V1000 device?
    4. what is the recommended internal (core) supply range?
    5. what is the absolute minimum and maximum internal (core) supply voltages?
    6. propagation delay from input pad to LUT to output pad in a XC2V1000-5 device?
    7. battery-backup supply current for any Virtex-II device?
    8. maximum frequency that the internal registers can be clocked in a XC2V1000-5 device?
    9. delay from clock (CLK) to pad for Virtex-II devices with a speed grade of 5?
  3. What is the command for creating a new AFS group (this is useful when working on a project using the SUN UNIX workstations)?
  4. What is the command for adding a group member to an AFS group?
  5. Referring to  http://www.ee.ualberta.ca/~elliott/ee552/studentAppNotes/2001_w/, what is the Perl script pon.pl used for?
  6. Give the URL for a Student Application Note that provides work-arounds for MaxPlusII errors?
  7. For a 2002w Student Application Note on interfacing SDRAM, what is the CAS latency?
  8. Name four past projects that are games?
  9. When is lab 3 due?
  10. When is the final report due?
  11. Where can one obtain parts for projects?
