Final Presentation and Demonstration
Short (20 minute) presentations are given by project groups covering the project design and testing. This 20 minutes is to include the demonstration of the project's operation. The content of the presentation is typically derived from the final report. The target audience is your peers. A demonstration or display of results of the project's operation is also required - a live demonstration is often the most effective and interesting for the audience. The use of video is encouraged in situations where a live demonstration is impractical, and as a backup in case something goes wrong during a live demonstration.

The presentation event sees several EE sessions running in parallel along with parallel sessions for other disciplines offered in the Department. These sessions are offered in smart classrooms that are equipped with the same presentation technology, described below. Additionally, a detailed schedule is provided at the end of this page.

Audience

Your peers, invited guests (including those invited by you), the EE Capstone Design instruction team, academics, and representatives from industry will be present. Selected members from the last three groups will serve on a 'panel' that will, among other things, maintain the presentation schedule and assess the caliber of the presentation and demonstration.

Since the event is catered, confirmation of attendance for all audience members is required. As a student, your attendance is already confirmed: there is no need to RSVP. Details regarding the RSVP protocol for other guests will be provided in class.

Grading

Grading is carried out by the evaluators on the panel. To accommodate differences in the marking carried out by each individual, marks are adjusted to a class-based average and standard deviation, as described in the syllabus common to EE400 and EE401.

The grading scheme that will be used is located here. This scheme has been intentionally selected such that groups will have freedom to choose communication techniques that work for them.

Grading is generally performed for the group as a whole, although provision is included for individual-based feedback and evaluation.

The schedule for this term's presentation sessions can be found at the end of this page.

Presentation Resources

A complete laboratory station (including PC, function generator, power supplies, etc.) is relocated to each room used for a presentation session. The lab PC will likely have network access, but it is wise to prepare for an interruption in that service. If you require additional equipment, please arrange this with the course technician well in advance of the presentation date.

All presentation sessions are held in 'smart' classrooms that have a Windows-based PC, audio and video inputs, and a digital projector. The PCs have both Adobe Acrobat Reader and Microsoft Powerpoint installed. If you intend on playing digital movies or audio, it is suggested that you test playback before-hand. Additionally, a 'document camera' will be made available. This is essentially a webcam on a light table: it is useful for displaying some projects on the screen.

Access to the standard smartroom equipment will be provided at some times in the week prior to the presentations. Times will be announced in class or through email. The lab equipment will not be available in the presentation rooms at these times.

Setup

During the morning coffee (from 9-9:30AM) on the day of the presentations, please install all software required for your presentation on the presentation PCs. This will allow us to adhere to the strict presentation schedule. Be sure to bring your presentation materials on USB memory stick or CD: although the Internet will likely be available, it is best to be prepared for the possibility that there may be an interruption in service.
