CMPE 401 - Computer Interfacing

Announcements:

• The final examination will be held on Tuesday, December 19 starting at 9 am in the Pavilion (the "Butterdome"). Row 11 has been reserved for this course. The exam period will be two hours in duration. You are permitted to bring an electronic calculator, a hardcopy of the course overheads, a copy of the M68000 Programmer's Reference Card, and a copy of the MicroC/OS-II command summary sheets. You are not permitted to bring any texbooks, any marked assignments, or copies of model solutions of any assignments or examinations. The examination problems will be similar in style to those that appeared in examinations over the past three years. The instructor will be holding office hours on Monday afternoon in ECERF room W2-044 from 1 pm to 4:30 pm. Electronic mail inquiries will be answered outside those hours. [Dec 17, 2006]
• The lab instructor will be in the lab on Friday, December 15th, Monday December 18th, and Tuesday, December 19th to allow those students that have not yet returned their boards and 2 cables to do so. Your marks will not be released until the equipment is returned. Drop your board and cables off from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. [Dec 11, 2006]

• Should you choose to use strtok in your lab 4 solution code modify lib/lab.ld as follows to make the linker error go away:

• Lab #4 has been posted. For those students in section D1 that plan on attending the Friday makeup section the prelab deadline is Wednesday of next week. For the oher groups in D1 the deadlines that correspond to the section your prelab is graded in will apply.[Nov 10, 2006]
• The midterm conditions will be as follows: The examination will be held in the regular classroom and will last 50 minutes. Please arrive slightly early since the exam will start promptly at 10:00. During the exam you can freely consult your hard-copies of the lecture slides. A 68000 Programming Reference card can be consulted. Also, the MicroC/OS-I reference handout can also be consulted (it is available at a hyperlink below). Electronic calculators are permitted. Note that model solutions of assignments or examinations are not permitted. [Oct 29, 2006]

• Lab 3 has been posted to the web. Be sure to complete the pre-lab before the start of your respective lab sections.

• The midterm date has been set to Monday, October 30. It will be 50 minutes long and will be held in the regular classroom. You will be allowed to freely consult your hardcopies of the course notes, but not past solutions to midterms or assignments. For studying purposes you should look at past model solutions, which are all available on the WWW (see the link back to last year's course homepage, given below). [Oct 16, 2006]

• When sending your ssh keys to me please send them via ECE Webmail instead of UofA webmail. All keys sent to me using UofA webmail have been altered in transit making them useless. I'll notify you via email if this has been the case and ask you to resend your keys via ECE webmail or via a direct transfer into my account. Thanks. [Oct 5, 2006]

• Please come and pick up a lab kit from the lab instructor in ETLC5-002 before your first lab section. In order to complete your pre-lab you must also purchase the CMPE401 lab kit from the EEClub. The cost is $18. One kit per group. The lab instructor will also be requesting your ECE ID for CVS and other computer services specific to CMPE401. The lab instructor will be in the CMPE401 lab from 2 - 4 P.M. on Friday the 15th and Monday the 18th to hand out the lab kits. Students in sections other than D1 can come during regular lab sections to pick up lab kits if coming during the Friday or Monday period is not possible. [Sept 13, 2006]
