I am a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta.
I received my BSc degree with first-class honors from the University of Moratuwa, Sri-Lanka, in 1986, MSc from th University of London, UK, in 1988, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria, Canada, in 1993. I was a post-doctoral fellow with the University of Victoria (1993-94) and the University of Bradford (1995-96). I was with Monash University, Melbourne, Australia from 1997 to 2002. My research interests include communication theory, modulation and coding, diversity techniques and fading, multicarrier communications and broadband wireless communications. I am an associate Editor (modulation and signal design) for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications.
My research area is Communication Theory.
Specific interests includes: Adaptive Modulation and Coding; Communication System Analysis; Communication Theory in Sensor and Ad-Hoc Networks; Cognitive Radios; Relay assisted and cooperative communications; Cross Layer Optimization; Detection and Estimation; Diversity and Fading Countermeasures; Iterative Receiver Techniques and Applications of Iterative Algorithms; Multiple Access Techniques; Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Systems and Space-Time Coding; Multi-user detection, signal separation and interference rejection; Multiuser Diversity; Network Coding; Network Information Theory; and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and multicarrier systems.
