Applied Miniaturisation Laboratory

Our Mission

The goal of the AML is to make advanced technologies more accessible through miniaturisation.

The AML is directed by
Dr. Christopher J. Backhouse, Professor with the University of Alberta Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.

Whether for medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, or probing the nanoscale, our instruments are being developed for applications in health care, research and industry.

As part of this development, we integrate a wide range of technologies, from those in conventional medical labs to microelectronics to state of the art micro- and nano-fabrication.

We work with scientists and engineers, medical labs, nanofabs and industrial leaders to achieve new levels of integration that will impact the quality of life for Canadians and others abroad. Please explore this website to find out more about our exciting technologies and discoveries.
